I'm afraid if you are not a Treadleonian, you may well get lost at this point. You kind of had to be there to understand where this thread is coming from. (There is no hope of understanding where it is going to!) I finished my Challenge quilt, Hurray! Soon I will have to start building the format for the Quilt show pages. . I recently turned down a Compac in what appeared to be about an 8 with foot control and manual for $125.00. Did I goof? There has not been any postings about this little machine so I have no idea if it is a rarity or desireable at that price. My collectors budget was strained at the time so I could not even follow my heart on this one. What do you all think? is this one in the same class with the FW? Frank D in So.Cal. I am so EXCITED!!!!!!!! Now I can communicate with you all alot better. I purchased an AK (1951) which is my birth year, that was an accident, I didn't know that until after. I is a beauty. When I work with neighbors on the computers I really pound into their heads about backups....well guess who had a major crash and no backup. Trying to save some very important files before rebooting whole drive. Hope to be back on my broom and zooming online soon. One note....Windows 98 does not install good if the virus program is running in the background. Now her other son is going to take some home so I cleaned out a cabinet. Found out she used the top drawer for her sewing supplies. Old, old stuff. Found a pkg. of 49 Singer needles with a 30 cent price. Linda, I have a spool marked Heminway and Bartlett. It is pure silk. Do you want it? All kinds of old wood spools that I will give to anyone interested. The small spools are marked 15 cents so you know they are old. I don't collect spools but I'd love to find out some information on the thread companies Coats & Clark's, J.&P. Coats, Clark's, etc. Also found a Singer zipper foot. I can always use one of those. And a 2 speed electric scissors. A job I thought would take me 1/2 hour ended up taking hours because there were photo albums in the bottom of the cabinet. I found these machines today and wondered if they were worth the price before buying: Singer model 99K in decent shape w/ no attach. for 135.00, has a tan case. Singer model 66 in okay shape (heavy) with little attach. for 50.00, great bentwood case w/key! can you believe it. Willcox & Gibbs with Ham/Beach motor without belt, or plug, in good shape for 225.00, still has the case! Singer model 15? the manual said "for model 1 and 11" on the front, but had the big number 15 above that. This machine was in "perfect" shape, not one scratch on it! I wondered if it was a reproduction, is that a possibility? They wanted 499.00 for the machine, no attach. but had a treadle cabinet, that is in good shape. (I really think that it is a repro) The manual was only pictures, no words, and under the machine it said "made in China". Anyone know anything? Can anyone point me to someone who sells FWs, etc.? I will be there approx. two weeks, so I have a weekend for browsing. Please email me privately...don't want to clutter FF. It does work and does not seem to be missing anything or in need of anything. I have another one that is "better" in a better table and such that I am keeping so am letting the "extra" one go....Anyone interested? I have only ever shipped once. I am in CT if anyone wants to pick it up... Also, I have an extra 401a with a few attachments I will consider letting go...also a duplicate. I ran across a 306W today in a lovely table with lots of goodies. So, of course, it had to follow me home. I know that is not one of the "prize" machines but it looks good....Hubbie thinks (HOPES?) maybe it needs some motor work (his favorite). I think it just needs a new belt. It works fine just needs a good lube (has tube with it) and oiling and some use...does have a touch of a different sound that DH says is a "brush" sound...Well since he buys them guess I have to let him have his thrills rebuilding the little motors...sigh. Anyhow; What on earth does the "W" stand for? I have never seen, or don't recall, the "W". I have seen J's & K's but W??? I would be interested in any good info on this machine and what the "W" signifies! Thanks. Mel
