Quilts in the show illustrate various hand and machine piecing, appliqu and quilting techniques. A special works in progress area will give visitors a behind the scenes look at various steps in the quilt making process.

Jersey Shore Quilters have hand pieced, appliqud and quilted an outstanding raffle quilt, Leaves of Many Colors. Chances for this large, queen-sized quilt will be available from JSQ members and supporting local businesses throughout the year and at the show. Proceeds benefit St. Gregorys Food Pantry. The quilt will be on display at the show and at various quilt shops and events throughout the year. Visit www.jerseyshorequilters.org or e-mail: [email protected] for its current location.

Quilters Dream baskets will also be raffled off at the event. Chances will be available on site only.

In addition to the quilt display, Harvest of Quilts will feature a vendor area where visitors can shop for the latest quilting fabrics and notions. Several vendors will also offer finished quilts and quilted items, fabric gifts and more. And, the ever-popular JSQ Country Store will have on sale a wide variety of items for quilters and sewers alike.

Awards at the Harvest of Quilts are determined by viewers choice. $200 prizes are awarded in two categories Bed quilt and Wall hanging. Come and cast your votes for your favorites while enjoying the spectacular display.

St. Peters School is handicap accessible. A large parking area is available for buses and cars. There are no food services available on site, but a list of local restaurants will be available.

New England Quilt Museum 18 Shattuck Street, Lowell, MA
Show Times: 10 AM-4 PM Tuesday - Saturday; Sundays 12-4 PM, May through December only
Admission Cost: $5, $4 for seniors and students, free to members

Elegant Antiques in Red and White is an exhibition of 30 antique quilts curated by Gerald Roy, whose collection contains 2500 quilts and quilt-related objects, fabrics and sewing tools. He is the curator of numerous exhibits and owner of the Pilgrim/Roy Quilt Conservatory in Warner, NH. Red and White Quilts were a popular style during the last quarter of the 19th century. These graphic quilts were showpieces that featured intricate piecing and sumptuous hand quilting. Almost every accomplished quiltmaker made a two-color quilt during this era and they often represented a needlewomans finest work. This is true of the Feathered Star, c. 1860 in the collection of the New England Quilt Museum. This quilt was probably never used and is in pristine condition. The quilt, Burgoyne Surrounded, was made in 1852 by Martha A. Page. She proudly appliqud her name and date on the top border of the piece.
