How to clean your Quilt system

Routinely inspecting the various parts of your Quilt system will keep everything running smoothly.

Here’s a truth in the HVAC world: A clean ductless mini-split is an efficient ductless mini-split.

It’s entirely normal for your Quilt parts to get dirty or dusty (this is life, after all!). Routinely inspecting the various parts of your system will ensure that everything is running as it should. It’ll also help sustain the comfortable home climate you depend on from Quilt.

There are plenty of quick and easy cleaning techniques you can perform on your own — and you won’t need to do them more than once a month. For bigger projects, it’s important to have a qualified service technician inspect your Quilt once a year. These routine checks will ensure your Quilt is thriving and your home temperature is perfect every minute of the day.

Below, you’ll find a guide to cleaning your system and all of its parts.

Cleaning your Quilt Indoor Unit filters

Thanks to the Indoor Unit’s smart sensors, you’ll get a notification from Quilt when the filters need cleaning — this’ll happen every few months.

  1. Start by removing the filters. The two air filters are on top of the Indoor Unit; each is secured magnetically, making them easy to remove. Place a sturdy step stool or ladder in front of the unit and carefully remove one filter at a time.
  2. Wipe the filters with a damp cloth. When you’re back on sturdy footing, wipe down the filters with a damp cloth to remove any accumulated dust or debris. To loosen stuck on particles, bring your filters to the sink and gently spray them with warm water. When necessary, gently scrub with a sponge or soft brush with soapy water (any standard household dish soap will do).
  3. Allow the filters to air dry. The filters should be completely dry before returning them to the unit. Have a snack or walk the dog — the filters should be dry upon your return.
  4. Reinstall the filters. Carefully return to your step stool and easily replace each filter to its magnet setting.

Cleaning the outside and front panel of your Quilt Indoor Unit

Every six months or so, your Quilt’s Indoor Units could benefit from a little care. Here’s what we suggest:

  1. Turn off your Quilt system.
  2. Wipe the panel down with a cloth and cleaning solution. Spray your preferred cleaning solution directly onto a clean cloth before wiping down the panel to remove dust and dirt. You’ll want to use the appropriate solution for the material of your Indoor Unit’s front panel: If it’s veneer or painted, be sure the solution is safe to use.
  3. Dry the panel. Use a second, dry cloth to wipe down the panel to catch any remaining debris and dry the unit.
  4. Wipe down the rest of the unit. Spray your preferred cleaning solution directly onto a clean cloth to wipe down the tops, sides, and bottom of the unit.
  5. Dry the unit. Use a second, dry cloth to dry the cleaned unit.
  6. Turn your system back on. Ahh, clean and comfortable.

How to clean your Quilt Outdoor Unit

You’ll want to inspect the unit every month, checking for debris and dirt build up around the grate. If you need to remove build up, switch off your system and don a pair of work gloves before manually removing any debris from the grate.

The Outdoor Unit benefits from a good cleaning every six months. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Turn off your Quilt system.
  2. Grab a garden hose with a sprayer nozzle and some protective gloves. Use a low pressure setting on the nozzle to gently spray the outdoor unit. Make sure to spray the blower fans and the heat exchanger. Use a soft brush to wipe away dirt and grime: You’ll want to start in a small area to make sure your brush is gentle enough not to damage the fins. Because the fins are extremely sharp, you’ll want to wear gloves rated for handling sharp metals to clean the coils.
  3. Turn your system back on.

How to clean your Quilt Dial

It’s a beauty, isn't it? You’ll want to be gentle with your Quilt Dial when you clean off any smudges or dust. Here’s how:

  1. Dampen a clean, soft cloth with water. Never spray solution or water directly onto the Dial. Only use water to dampen a soft cloth, being sure to wring out any excess liquid before gently wiping the display and sides of the Dial. Be sure to keep any excess water from accumulating anywhere on the Dial.
  2. Enjoy your shiny Dial. Voilà!
